Cuban legislature leader Lazo Hernandez arrives in Hanoi for official visit
VOV.VN - President of the National Assembly of People’s Power Esteban Lazo Hernandez arrived in Hanoi on September 30, beginning his six-day official visit to Vietnam where he is also to co-chair the second session of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

This is Lazo Hernandez’s third visit to Vietnam in his capacity as President of the Cuban National Assembly, following previous visits in 2017 and 2024.
The top Cuban legislator and his entourage were welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, and staff from the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi.
The visit takes place at a time when Vietnam and Cuba are celebrating 65 years of their diplomatic relations this year.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long, the visit holds significant importance on multiple levels. It not only represents the regular high-level exchange between the two legislative bodies but is also a major political and diplomatic event contributing to further strengthening the time-honoured friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.
A key highlight of the visit is the second session of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Hanoi. Despite its relatively new cooperation mechanism, it has already proven to be highly effective and plays an essential role in enhancing the unique relationship between the two countries.
In recent years, the traditional solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have been continuously nurtured and strengthened. The special friendship between the two Parties and two States has been maintained through frequent high-level visits, phone calls, and regular exchanges between top leaders.
Several Vietnamese enterprises are currently promoting investment projects in Cuba, focusing on industrial infrastructure development, production of building materials, solar energy, essential consumer goods, and rice cultivation.
Vietnam has repeatedly reaffirmed its consistent stance of solidarity and support for Cuba, calling for an end to the unilateral economic and financial embargo against the Caribbean state and backing efforts to normalise relations between it and the United States.
A fundraising campaign in support of the Cuban people launched by the Vietnam Red Cross from August 13 to October 16 has so far raised more than VND437 billion, far exceeding the initial target of VND65 billion.
