Top legislator reaffirms Vietnam’s strong support for Cuba’s revolutionary cause
VOV.VN - Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man on September 2 met with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, reaffirming Vietnam stands shoulder to shoulder with Cuba in its revolutionary cause.

Chairman Man warmly welcomed the Cuban leader back to Vietnam for its 80th National Day celebration, noting that his working trip coincides with the 65th anniversary of Vietnam–Cuba diplomatic relations this year. He described the guest’s visit as a new historical milestone in bilateral relations and a vivid demonstration of the special friendship between the Parties, States, and peoples of the two countries.
The legislator affirmed that over the past 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the special Vietnam–Cuba bond, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro, has continuously developed into a fraternal, politically trusted relationship, serving as a model in international relations.
The Vietnamese Party, State, and people highly value this relationship and are determined to deepen it further across all channels and sectors, he affirmed.
President Miguel Diaz-Canel, for his part, congratulated Vietnam on its achievements over the past 80 years and praised the active participation and patriotic spirit of the Vietnamese people during the celebrations.
He highlighted the positive development of bilateral relations in recent years, especially following General Secretary and President To Lam’s visit to Cuba in September 2024 and other regular high-level exchanges, which have deepened ties between the two countries. Several new cooperative projects have achieved initial success and brought tangible benefits, he said.
He affirmed that he would direct Cuban ministries, agencies, and localities to create favourable mechanisms and special conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to successfully operate in Cuba, especially in strategic sectors such as agriculture, energy, and biotechnology, while gradually expanding into other potential fields.
President Diaz-Canel sincerely thanked Vietnam for its practical support in many areas, particularly agriculture and food security in recent years. He also expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for mobilizing support for the Cuban people on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, noting the enthusiastic participation of the Vietnamese people as a vivid demonstration of the pure, enduring solidarity and friendship between the two countries.
Both leaders agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, increase high-level exchanges, and promote people-to-people ties, while continuing to share legislative experience and collaborate in international parliamentary forums.
On this occasion, President Diaz-Canel also extended an official invitation to Chairman Man to visit Cuba, which was gratefully accepted.
