Vietnam and China boost win-win cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam and China agreed to increase win-win cooperation during a meeting in Beijing on August 19 between Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
They said both sides should maintain visit exchanges to build up political trust and sketch out future cooperation orientations, especially in fields such as diplomacy, defense, security, economics, trade, investment, tourism, education as well as local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
To Lam welcomed China’s engagement in cooperation project to build three standard gauge railway lines connecting Vietnam to China, as well as in the Vientiane - Vung Ang railway lines and metro lines in Hanoi.
He proposed that China continue to open the market for high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products, and facilitate the opening of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing as well as trade promotion offices in China.
He expected that China would promote high quality investment projects in Vietnam, soon pilot smart border gates, quickly resolve pending problems for a number of cooperation projects, and increase bilateral cooperation in science-technology, innovation, green transformation, digital transformation, and high-tech agriculture.
The Party leader stressed the need for the two sides to enhance post-pandemic tourism cooperation and well deploy cooperation in natural disaster prevention and mitigation, relief and emergency response.
Li for his part expressed China’s readiness to maintain high-level exchanges with Vietnam, promote the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation’s role in fostering the development of bilateral relations, and strengthen railway transport connectivity between Vietnam and Europe through China.
He said China would work closely with Vietnam to soon complete feasibility studies of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, make planning of the Dong Dang - Hanoi, and Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong railway line.
Li also vowed to create favourable conditions for Vietnam to increase the export of its high-quality agricultural and aquatic products and seasonal fruits to China.
The two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to jointly control and properly handle disagreements, maintain peace and stability at sea, and consolidate a favorable environment for the development of each country.
To Lam proposed that the two sides strictly implement high-level common awareness and the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues between Vietnam and China; respect international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and respect each other's legitimate rights and interests.
He also stressed the need to promote the effectiveness of negotiation mechanisms on maritime issues; adequately handle the issue of fishing boats; well control the situation at sea, maintain the stable and positive development of bilateral relations and peace and stability in the region.
Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam arrived in China on August 18 for a three day state visit at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
