Vietnam and China agree to enhance strategic connectivity
VOV.VN - Senior leaders of Vietnam and China emphasised the importance of strengthening strategic connectivity, particularly in infrastructure and transportation projects, to promote practical and sustainable cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Hanoi on September 2 between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Zhao Leji.
PM Chinh highly appreciated Zhao Leji leading the high-level Chinese delegation to attend Vietnam’s 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day celebrations on September 2. He highlighted that the participation of the Chinese military contingent in the parade demonstrated China’s respect for Vietnam and the special ties between the two countries. He also congratulated China on successfully hosting the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended to the Vietnamese delegation during its recent working trip.
Both sides acknowledged that Vietnam–China relations have developed remarkably in recent years, with strengthened political trust, frequent high-level strategic exchanges, increasingly comprehensive cooperation mechanisms, and robust practical cooperation. In particular, cooperation between the two parliaments has become a key pillar, further consolidating the foundation of friendship between the two countries.

PM Chinh proposed maintaining and improving the effectiveness of intergovernmental working groups, enhancing coordination in key sectors such as foreign affairs, defence, and public security; accelerating railway cooperation, providing preferential loans, supporting human resource training and technology transfer, aiming to commence the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway project in 2025.
He also suggested that China expand imports of Vietnamese goods, increase electricity supply capacity, accelerate smart border gate development, establish pilot cross-border economic zones, and promote high-quality investment as well as cooperation in finance, science, technology, and education.
Chairman Zhao, for his part, acknowledged his host’s proposals, affirming China’s readiness to deepen practical cooperation, open the market further for high-quality Vietnamese goods, strengthen infrastructure and transportation connectivity, coordinate the first session of the Joint Committee on Railway Cooperation, and encourage Chinese enterprises to expand high-quality investment in Vietnam.
The meeting was held in a spirit of sincerity, frankness, and trust. Both sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the high-level common understanding, better manage and resolve differences, maintain mutual understanding, and preserve a peaceful and stable environment conducive to each country’s development.
