During his stay, the Chinese legislator will attend a grand celebration marking Vietnam’s 80th August Revolution and National Day (September 2) in Hanoi, and co-chair the first session of the Cooperation Committee between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the National People’s Congress of China.

The visit has been made at the invitation of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

This is Zhao’s first official visit to Vietnam as head of China’s top legislative body. According to Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh, the high-level delegation led by Zhao attending the celebrations in Hanoi demonstrates China’s special regard for the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries, as well as its respect for the historic significance of the August Revolution of 1945.

The visit comes at a time when bilateral relations are developing positively and yielding important results. The year 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - 2025) and has been designated the Year of Vietnam–China Humanistic Exchange. The two countries have conducted high-level visit exchanges, particularly the Vietnam visit in April 2025 by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

Coinciding with Zhao’s visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is in China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit from August 31 to September 1 at the invitation of the Chinese Government. Following the PM’s trip, President Luong Cuong will visit China from September 2 to 4 to attend the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the World Anti-Fascist War at the invitation of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

Parliamentary cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China has been regarded as an important pillar of the bilateral relationship, recording many positive outcomes in recent years. At the first session of the Cooperation Committee, both sides are expected to discuss orientations and measures to effectively implement high-level common understandings reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and States, while enhancing exchanges between specialised committees, friendship groups, and localities of the two countries.

Government chief begins working trip to China for SCO Summit
