Vietnam and Cambodia step up implementation of high-level agreements
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to accelerate the implementation of high-level agreements during a meeting in Phnom Penh on February 27 between Nguyen Minh Vu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, and Neth Savoeun, First Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia.
Vu, who was on a working visit to Cambodia, conveyed warm regards and best wishes from senior Vietnamese leaders to Neth Savoeun, reaffirming Vietnam’s high regard for its comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia.
He emphasised that the February 6, 2026 state visit by General Secretary To Lam to Cambodia marked a strategic milestone in bilateral relations. The swift dispatch of a Vietnamese working delegation to Cambodia following the visit and the Lunar New Year holiday, he said, reflects strong political determination and a proactive approach to translating high-level agreements into concrete programmes, action plans and clear implementation roadmaps.
The move aims to promptly transform political commitments into tangible cooperation outcomes that deliver practical benefits to the people of both countries, further strengthening political trust and creating fresh momentum for stable, sustainable and long-term Vietnam–Cambodia relations, said Vu.
He congratulated Cambodia on its significant and comprehensive achievements in recent years, expressing confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet and with contributions from senior leaders including Neth Savoeun, Cambodia would continue to advance toward its development goals of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050, with improved living standards and a stronger regional and global standing.
For his part, Neth Savoeun congratulated Vietnam on the successful organisation of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), praising the country’s achievements across multiple sectors.
He expressed confidence that under the strategic leadership of the CPV, Vietnam would effectively implement the resolution adopted at the Congress, including targets for double-digit economic growth and the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle-income status by 2030, moving toward a high-income socialist-oriented economy by 2045.
Reaffirming that Cambodia attaches high priority to its traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, Neth Savoeun underscored the importance of close coordination to ensure effective implementation of strategic orientations and high-level agreements.
He also welcomed efforts to accelerate negotiations and signing of an agreement on the management of land border gates, as well as preparations for a new land border management treaty to replace the 1983 agreement in the near future.
