Sierra Leone President explores Saigon Hi-Tech Park model
VOV.VN - Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio and his entourage visited the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City on March 19 to learn about the development of this model.
The President was briefed about the park’s establishment and development in an effort to attract investors and spur growth.
Founded in 2002, SHTP has focused on four spearhead areas: microelectronics - information technology - telecommunications; precision mechanics – automation; biotechnology; new energy – new materials – nanotechnology.
Together with Hi-Tech Parks in Hanoi and Da Nang, SHTP has made positive contributions to the overall development of Vietnam, especially in the fields of support industry and semiconductor technology. It has so far attracted large foreign investors such as Nidec, Samung, and Intel corporations.
President Julius Maada Bio said he was impressed by the operational model of SHTP and that hi-tech and innovation cooperation between the two countries will be given priority in the coming time.
Sierra Leone also has businesses specializing in information technology, however, it is necessary to pay attention to and promote technology development in order to narrow the gap between countries, said the president.
He revealed that Sierra Leone would establish a unit in HCM City to facilitate research, study and share experiences with Vietnamese partners.
President Julius Maada Bio began a week-long visit to Vietnam on march 14 at the invitation of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
