Vietnam willing to work with Sierra Leone to boost agricultural cooperation

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to work with Sierra Leone to find suitable models to step up agricultural collaboration, particularly in rice cultivation and processing.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting on March 15 with the visiting President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, during which the later informed the former the recent situation in the Western African nation and outcomes of his talks with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Maada Bio said his nation places importance on developing its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam and hailed the Southeast Asian nation’s recent socio-economic progresses. He expressed his hope for stronger bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, telecommunications, education and training.
He added that Sierra Leone admires Vietnam's tremendous achievements in agriculture and desires Vietnam’s support and experience sharing in this regard.

PM Chinh told President of Sierra Leone Julius Mada Bio that the official visit to Vietnam is a vivid manifestation of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries amid their celebration of the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

The Vietnamese Government leader congratulated Sierra Leone for its national construction in the past time and affirmed Vietnam always treasures its amity and cooperation with African nations, including Sierra Leone.

Both countries boast huge potential to expand their cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, agriculture, technology, education-training, security, defence, and people-to-people exchange, Chinh emphasized.
He asked Vietnamese and Sierra Leonean ministries, sectors and businesses closely work together to effectively carry out their cooperation agreements.

Chinh suggested ministry leaders of the two nations should meet up and discuss specific measures to strengthen their partnerships, while State agencies and enterprises should intensify exchanges and seek opportunities for business and investment cooperation with a view to promoting bilateral relations in a more effective and substantive manner.

The two leaders discussed a host of issues regarding COVID-19 prevention and control, economic development, mutual support at multilateral forums, and cooperation with organizations in West Africa and Southeast Asia, and the situations in Africa and the East Sea.

The pair expressed their confidence that the Vietnam-Siera Leone friendship and cooperation will grow and flourish for the sake of their people and for peace and development in the region and the wider world.
