Prime Minister encourages Qualcomm to expand investment in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on Qualcomm to deepen its investment in Vietnam to promote high-tech development and innovation in the country.

Receiving Cristiano Amon, CEO and president of Qualcomm (USA) in Hanoi on August 12, the Prime Minister appreciated the firm’s ongoing cooperation with Vietnamese corporations, especially in 5G technology and research and development centres. He emphasised the desire for Qualcomm not only to expand investment but also to strengthen collaboration in research, high-tech manufacturing, alongside supporting an innovation ecosystem, and boosting startup development.
The Prime Minister requested Qualcomm to closely cooperate with Vietnamese corporations and State-owned enterprises to enhance their capacity to join the global high-tech supply chain, train high-quality human resources in chip manufacturing, and transfer advanced core technologies. He also affirmed that Vietnam is continuously improving its socialist-oriented market economy institutions and hoped Qualcomm would actively support this process.
For his part, Amon shared his views on the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the new technology era. He expressed confidence that Qualcomm’s partnership with the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) would expand into areas such as high-performance computing, AI-integrated cameras, and next-generation data centres.
Qualcomm expects Vietnam to become a leading regional research and development hub, especially in AI, he said.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Chinh highlighted Vietnam’s economic growth target of 8.3–8.5% this year, aiming for double-digit growth in the coming years. He affirmed that Vietnam would rely on science and technology, innovation, and deep investment in technologies such as 5G, AI, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things to achieve these goals.
The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that with Vietnam’s strong infrastructure in telecommunications, transportation, and power, along with a determined mindset for innovation, Qualcomm would help major corporations like VNPT, Viettel (Vietnam Military Industry and Telecom Group), and Vingroup (largest private conglomerate in Vietnam) establish research and development, and startup innovation centres, thereby boosting Vietnam’s high-tech industry.
At the meeting, the Qualcomm leadership affirmed the firm’s commitment to implementing cooperative projects, creating opportunities for Vietnam to actively engage in the global supply chain. He also outlined strategies to help Vietnam maximise these opportunities, aiming for mutual success.
