VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has said the April 24-25 state visit to Laos by President Luong Cuong highlights the enduring value of Vietnam – Laos relations, marking a significant milestone in deepening the special relationship between the two countries.

Son, who accompanied the President during the visit, told the press that it was President Cuong’s first official trip to Laos that coincides with Laos’ traditional New Year Bunpimay and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification.
The visit reflected the deep friendship, solidarity, and mutual support between the two countries nurtured over decades and passed down to younger generations, said the diplomat.
During the visit, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political ties, enhancing cooperation in defence, security, and national development, and effectively implementing existing high-level agreements.
Vietnam and Laos agreed to elevate economic cooperation to match the depth of their political relationship. Notably, the two countries vowed to advance key projects like the Vung Ang Port, which will help Laos expand its regional and global connectivity.
Agreements were reached to improve education and training cooperation, focusing on quality and responsiveness to national development needs.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, President Cuong announced a US$3 million donation to support the construction of a district hospital in Vientiane, aiming to boost Laos’ social welfare infrastructure.
Both sides pledged to work closely within multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and Mekong cooperation, and to deepen trilateral ties with Cambodia.
The President also met with representatives from the Vietnamese community and businesses in Laos, recognising their contributions to bilateral relations and Laos’ socio-economic development.
According to Son, the visit sent a resounding message about the everlasting value of the Vietnam–Laos special relationship. It underscored a shared vision for deeper, more substantive, and more effective cooperation in future, and reaffirmed both countries’ joint efforts toward a resilient ASEAN Community and a peaceful, cooperative global landscape.
