Vietnam prioritises strengthening relations with Laos, reaffirms President
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of giving top priority to strengthening its relations with Laos, during his meeting with President of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane in Vientiane on April 25.

Cuong, who was in Vientiane on a two-day state visit to Laos, commended Laos for its development accomplishments, particularly in economic stabilisation, inflation control, and improvement of people’s lives.
He also praised Laos’ success as Chair of ASEAN and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024, and expressed his belief that Laos would successfully implement the resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress and the ninth five-year socio-economic development plan.
Cuong acknowledged the strong and growing friendship between the two countries and highlighted the effective cooperation between the two National Assemblies, which he said has contributed significantly to the special Vietnam–Laos relationship.
He also shared Vietnam’s current focus on institutional reform, including constitutional and legal amendments, aimed at paving the way for its goal of becoming a high-income, developed nation by 2045.
The President also emphasised that both Vietnam and Laos share many similarities, and their development paths are closely linked.

Saysomphone, for his part, warmly welcomed Cuong on his first official visit to Laos, describing it as a testament to the deep comradeship and enduring friendship between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
He reiterated Laos’ gratitude for Vietnam’s enduring support, from the past struggle for national independence to the present cause of national development, including Vietnam’s involvement in the construction of the iconic Lao National Assembly building in Vientiane.
He reaffirmed strong support for Vietnam’s development strategy, and said that the Lao National Assembly would continue to closely cooperate with its Vietnamese counterpart, through regular exchanges to share experiences in governance and reforms aimed at building a modern and responsive political system.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges, effectively implementing bilateral agreements, including those between the two legislatures, and promoting legal reforms to create favourable conditions for localities and businesses of both countries.
They also praised ongoing efforts to co-author and publish a book commemorating 50 years of Vietnam–Laos parliamentary relations that is expected to raise public awareness about the unique and enduring bilateral friendship.
Both host and guest reaffirmed their commitment to solidarity and close coordination at regional and international forums, including the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and the Francophone Parliamentary Forum (APF), to support each other’s positions and uphold shared ASEAN principles.
