President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed in Cairo on State visit to Egypt

VOV.VN - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi hosted a welcoming ceremony in Caro on August 5 for Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and his entourage who were on a State visit to Egypt.

President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi warmly welcomed President Luong Cuong and his spouse when the motorcade entered the Presidential Palace.

The Egyptian President then invited the Vietnamese President to step onto the honour podium to render the flag salute. The national anthems of both countries were played by the military band.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, President Al Sisi and President Luong Cuong exchanged greetings and introduced members of their official delegations present at the event.

Immediately after the ceremony, the two president held talks discuss concrete measures to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of bilateral ties.

Vietnam–Egypt relations have treasured a long-standing and special history since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1963. Both countries have actively supported each other during their respective struggles for national liberation and at various international organisations and multilateral forums. President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam visited Egypt three times, in June 1911, June 1946, and September 1946.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Egypt has achieved significant results. Bilateral ties have expanded across multiple fields and have been consolidated on the basis of friendship, equality, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial cooperation, serving the interests of both peoples. Highlights include frequent exchange of delegations and high-level meetings at international events and forums in which both countries participate.

The two countries also regularly coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the African Union (AU).

Vietnam highly values Egypt’s increasingly active and important role in promoting regional stability and security. Both sides have expressed readiness to serve as bridges for each other in enhancing cooperation with ASEAN and Arab countries, for the benefit of their peoples and for peace, cooperation, and development in their respective regions.

On economic and trade cooperation, Egypt is one of Vietnam’s key trading partners and a promising market in Africa. It was the first North African country to recognise Vietnam as a full market economy in November 2013. Two-way trade turnover reached US$541.36 million in 2024, the highest among Vietnam’s markets in North Africa.

The two countries have ample room for cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally, as they possess complementary strengths and are both large markets with populations of over 100 million and geostrategic importance.

Cultural cooperation is also a vital pillar in Vietnam–Egypt relations. In recent years, locality-to-locality cooperation has been further enhanced.

President Luong Cuong’s visit is a significant diplomatic and political event, affirming the commitment of both sides to elevate their relations, reinforce political trust, and deepen their traditional friendship. It is expected to create momentum and open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
