President Luong Cuong meets with Arab League leader Ahmed Aboul Gheit
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong on August 4 visited the Arab League headquarters in Cairo and had a meeting with Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as part of his ongoing State visit to Egypt.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Gheit emphasised the historic significance of President Cuong’s visit, calling it a testament to Vietnam’s respect for the Arab League and the long-standing, traditional bonds between the Vietnamese people and Arab countries.
He recalled that since the 1950s, the people of Egypt and other Arab countries, including himself personally, closely followed Vietnam’s great struggle for national independence, viewing it as a model for their own movements for liberation.
He noted that Vietnam’s fight for freedom was not only a defining chapter in its own history but also a source of pride for many nations around the world. He expressed profound admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, highlighting his tireless efforts in leading the Vietnamese people toward independence.
President Cuong, for his part, praised the Arab League’s important role in promoting peace, stability, and development in the Middle East–Africa region and globally. He expressed confidence that the League would continue achieving success in building a united, prosperous, and thriving community.
The President thanked the Secretary-General and the Arab people for their good sentiment toward President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese nation. He affirmed Vietnam’s desire to further deepen and expand its good relations with the Arab League and all its member states, many of whom are traditional friends and key economic partners of Vietnam.
To build on this solid foundation, President Cuong proposed that Vietnam and Arab League member states further strengthen political and diplomatic ties, reinforce mutual trust and affection, and actively implement existing cooperation agreements, particularly the Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Arab League Secretariat.
He also suggested closer consultation, coordination, and mutual support within multilateral frameworks, especially the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Agreeing with the Secretary-General’s proposal to enhance cooperation between the Arab League and ASEAN, President Cuong affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to serve as a bridge linking the Arab League with Southeast Asia.
Secretary-General Gheit reaffirmed that the Arab League and its member states highly value their comprehensive partnership with Vietnam. He thanked Vietnam for its balanced stance grounded in international law and the UN Charter on global issues, especially its support for the just cause of the Palestinian people. He pledged to do his utmost to advance the relationship between Vietnam and the Arab League, and to further deepen ties between Vietnam and the League’s 22 member states.
