PM receives Lao leader on ASEAN Future Forum sidelines
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumsay Kommasith in Hanoi on February 25 on the sidelines of the ASEAN Future Forum 2025.

Chinh highly appreciated the Lao government’s decision to send both Deputy Prime Minister Saleumsay Kommasith and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane to participate and speak at various sessions of the forum, demonstrating Laos’ strong commitment to and recognition of this important multilateral event hosted by Vietnam in 2025.
He expressed confidence that with the active participation and valuable contributions of the Lao delegation and other international representatives, the forum would continue to serve as an incubator for ideas shaping ASEAN’s future development, and contributing to building a united and resilient ASEAN Community.
Now more than ever, ASEAN must strengthen its solidarity, resilience and inclusivity to ensure continued prosperity for the benefit of its people, Chinh emphasized.
He recalled the success of the recent high-level meeting between the leaders of the three ruling parties of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as the trilateral meeting of the three Prime Ministers, which reinforced commitments made at the highest levels.
He also highlighted the outcomes of the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee in January 2025, which outlined specific cooperation plans. Both sides agreed to implement the agreements reached between their respective Political Bureaus, as well as the 2025 Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Plan, in a serious and effective manner.
In particular, both sides pledged to identify new approaches to enhance cooperation across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, security, defense, investment, trade, and transportation connectivity.
They consented to work to improve investment efficiency, encourage Vietnamese enterprises, especially large corporations, to invest in Laos, and promote the development of Lao economic infrastructure.
They also agreed to foster significant progress in cultural, educational, healthcare, and scientific-technical cooperation.
Chinh later reviewed the key projects that both sides are actively implementing and reaffirmed the Vietnamese government’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and expediting the launch of new ones.
Kommasith for his part praised Vietnam’s ASEAN Future Forum initiative, which he said has played a crucial role in promoting peace and cooperation in the region since its inception in 2024. He noted that the forum has garnered attention not only from ASEAN member states but also from many countries worldwide.
As the Deputy PM in charge of economic affairs, he pledged to work closely with relevant Lao ministries and agencies to implement the high-level directives and commitments of both countries’ leaders. Special attention, he said, will be given to exploring innovative approaches and ensuring high-level determination in advancing key cooperation projects.
Both sides expressed confidence that the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos would continue to grow stronger and reap even greater success in the future.
