PM Pham Minh Chinh meets Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Russia
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a brief meeting with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, on October 23, on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit there.
He congratulated China on the remarkable achievements made over the past 75 years in national development, and reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently views the development of relations with China as an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy.
Chinh also welcomed China’s significant contributions to BRICS and expressed Vietnam’s readiness to actively coordinate with BRICS member countries to further enhance the role of developing nations in addressing global peace and development challenges.
With regard to Vietnam – China relations, the PM highly appreciated the positive development of relations between the two Parties and countries, which are now entering a new phase of building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future.
He proposed that both sides continue to promote high-level exchanges and strengthen practical cooperation in key areas, especially transportation connectivity.
He said priority should be given to accelerating the implementation of three standard-gauge railway lines linking Vietnam and China, namely the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong, the Lang Son – Hanoi, and the Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong rail routes to foster economic ties.
In addition, he suggested that both countries collaborate in organizing activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchange in 2025.
Xi for his part praised Vietnam for its achievements, particularly in socio-economic development.
He expressed satisfaction of the positive and effective trend in China-Vietnam relations, emphasizing the importance of promoting ties in accordance with the ‘Four Goods’ spirit of good neighbours, good friends, good comrades, and good partners and with the high-level consensus reached by both countries.
Xi reaffirmed China’s willingness to maintain strategic dialogue with Vietnam and deepen practical cooperation, further enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Vietnam – China Community with a Shared Future.
To step up economic connectivity, Xi said he would instruct relevant Chinese agencies to expedite transportation linkages between the two countries.
The same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had brief meetings with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Kazan, Russia, on October 23 morning for the two-day BRICS Summit at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, chair of BRICS 2024.
BRICS is a group of emerging economies that account for more than 40% of the global population and about a quarter of the world’s GDP.
The group was established in 2009 with four founding members, namely Brazil, Russia, India, and China. It admitted South Africa as a full member a year later before expanding to nine members by January 2024 with the admission of Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
