PM Pham Minh Chinh arrives in Brazil for G20 summit activities
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived Galeao International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 16 evening, beginning their working trip to attend the G20 summit from November 16 to 19 at the invitation of Brazilian President and G20 Chair Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his spouse.
Over the past years, the G20 has been one of the most important mechanisms for global governance, playing a significant role in leading and shaping international efforts to address global challenges. This summit presents an opportunity for Vietnam to actively and responsibly contribute to key and urgent global issues, reflecting the country’s potential as it enters a new era of development.
As a guest at the G20 summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will share perspectives on global issues and is expected to speak at two sessions on November 18 and 19, focusing on the important themes of poverty reduction, sustainable development and energy rransition.
He will highlight valuable lessons learned from Vietnam’s extensive experience and significant achievements in combating poverty, which have been recognized and praised worldwide. He will also discuss Vietnam’s approaches and strategies for sustainable development and energy transition in the coming period, while announcing that Vietnam will host the fourth Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in 2025.
At the summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will support the Call to Action on Global Governance Reform, an important G20 document that reflects the group’s commitment to reforming and modernizing key international institutions such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund, reaffirming the G20’s leading role in promoting sustainable development goals.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will participate in the launch of the “Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty” initiative as a founding member. Amidst the slow progress of global efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the establishment of this alliance will contribute to generating new political momentum and effectively coordinating existing efforts against poverty. This spirit aligns with Vietnam’s comprehensive, inclusive, and people-centered approach, as well as its commitment to amplifying the voices of developing countries in the fight against poverty.
While staying in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to hold talks with Brazilian President Lula da Silva to review the implementation of high-level agreements reached during his visit in September 2023 and discuss major directions and concrete measures to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
The PM will also participate in several bilateral activities with Brazil to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, including the inauguration of a commemorative plaque honouring President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro.
This working trip provides an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen and enhance cooperation with partners across various fields. It will also help elevate the Vietnam-Brazil bilateral relationship to new heights, increase political commitment and trust, and open up broader cooperation avenues for a comprehensive, in-depth, stable, and sustainable partnership that brings tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
