Vietnam’s G20 Summit engagement shows commitment to promoting cooperation, sustainable development
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam will attend the 19th G20 Summit in Brazil on November 18-19 at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to reaffirm the country’s commitment to deeper engagement in major global forums to promote cooperation, sustainable development, and global peace.
This marks the first time that Chinh attends the G20 Summit as the guest, though Vietnam is currently not holding the rotating presidency of any multilateral forum. This highlights the increasing recognition by the international community, including the host country Brazil, of Vietnam’s role in the global economy, as well as its influence and contributions to global multilateral mechanisms.
The G20 Summit, themed Building A Just World and A Sustainable Planet, will prioritize discussions on poverty eradication, sustainable development, energy transition, and the reform of global governance institutions, all of which are issues of common concern for all countries.
For many years, the G20 has been one of the most important mechanisms for global governance, playing a crucial role in leading and shaping international efforts to address global challenges. This presents an opportunity for Vietnam to proactively, actively, and responsibly contribute to addressing key and urgent global issues, in line with the country’s growing power and influence as it enters a new era of development. The Prime Minister’s participation and speeches will send a strong message about a dynamic, innovative Vietnam, that is ready to shoulder global responsibilities alongside other countries.
In his speeches, the Prime Minister will share valuable lessons from Vietnam’s experience in combating poverty, a field where the country has made significant achievements that have been recognized and praised worldwide. He will also discuss Vietnam’s approach to sustainable development and energy transition in the coming period, while introducing the upcoming Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit, which Vietnam will host in 2025.
During the summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will support the Call to Action on Global Governance Reform – the key G20 document that reflects the G20’s commitment to reforming and modernizing international institutions such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund. The document underscores the G20’s central role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will attend the launch ceremony of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty initiative as a founding member. As the world’s efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve the global Sustainable Development Goals slow down, the establishment of the Alliance will provide a new political momentum, effectively coordinating with existing poverty alleviation efforts. This spirit aligns with Vietnam’s inclusive and global approach and its stance on amplifying the voices of developing nations in the fight against poverty.
The PM will have bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations within the framework of the summit to further deepen relations across various fields, particularly trade, investment, and development cooperation.
On this occasion, Chinh will visit Brazil and the Dominican Republic to further enhance and open a new chapter in relations between Vietnam and those countries.
