PM meets Russian ambassador to advance energy security cooperation
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko on April 1 to discuss the implementation of outcomes from his recent official visit to Russia, with a focus on advancing cooperation agreements on energy security.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes of the visit, which he said help enhance political trust and promote substantive cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, oil and gas, and science and technology.
He commended the Russian Embassy in Hanoi for its close coordination with relevant agencies of both countries in ensuring the success of the visit. He reaffirmed that Vietnam–Russia relations remain a loyal and enduring partnership, tested over time, while expressing his hope that both sides would continue to concretise high-level agreements and deepen bilateral cooperation in an effective and practical manner.
To follow up on the visit’s outcomes, the Prime Minister called for continued close coordination between relevant ministries, agencies, and localities of both countries in implementing agreed commitments across all sectors. Politically, both sides should promote high-level exchanges, strengthen engagements at all levels, and prepare for the next session of the Vietnam–Russia Intergovernmental Committee in 2026.
In the oil and gas sector, he emphasised the need to promptly implement signed agreements, further promoting traditional cooperation in exploration and production in both countries, while expanding collaboration into new and renewable energy, as well as the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
In transport, he urged Russian authorities and enterprises to send working delegations to Vietnam to explore cooperation in urban railway development in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as enhancing rail connectivity between the two countries.
Ambassador Bezdetko congratulated the success of the Prime Minister’s visit, noting that discussions with Russian leaders were substantive and productive, providing fresh momentum for bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed the embassy’s readiness to work closely with Vietnamese partners to effectively implement agreed outcomes, particularly in the priority areas highlighted by the Prime Minister.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Chinh also asked the Ambassador to convey his sincere thanks to President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and other senior Russian leaders for their warm hospitality during the visit.
