PM meets ERIA President to strengthen policy research cooperation

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting with Professor Tetsuya Watanabe, president of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), in Tianjin, China, on June 25 as part of his engagement in the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum.

Chinh acknowledged ERIA’s important contributions to Vietnam’s development, particularly through its close collaboration with research institutions in recent years. He praised the quality of ERIA’s policy research and expressed hope for even deeper cooperation moving forward.

He called on ERIA to continue partnering with Vietnamese agencies in policy consultation and research efforts aimed at identifying new growth drivers, improving productivity, enhancing competitiveness, and promoting key transitions, such as digital transformation, green growth, and the circular economy.

These engines, he said, are vital to achieving Vietnam’s long-term vision of fast, sustainable development and double-digit economic growth in the coming decades.

The Prime Minister also encouraged ERIA to work closely with Vietnam to develop innovative content and ideas for upcoming events such as the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), and Vietnam’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2027.

Professor Watanabe, for his part, expressed admiration for Vietnam’s development strategy and the vision outlined in the Prime Minister’s speech at the WEF. He affirmed ERIA’s strong commitment to supporting Vietnam in formulating new ideas and providing practical, long-term policy support.

Stressing that ASEAN is at a critical turning point, Professor Watanabe said he hopes Vietnam will continue playing a leadership role in promoting regional resilience and integration.

He also reaffirmed ERIA’s readiness to collaborate on ASEAN-related initiatives such as the AFF and extended a formal invitation to the Vietnamese Prime Minister to attend ERIA’s annual high-level policy forum to be held in Jakarta.

ERIA is a respected international think tank with a strong track record of collaboration with key Vietnamese institutions, including the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Party Central Committee’s Policy and Strategy Commission, and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
