PM encourages Vietnam – Malaysia education cooperation
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expected that Vietnam and Malaysia would increase education – training cooperation, especially in key areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digitalisation, and cyber security, during his speech at National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on May 28.

He praised the achievements that National University of Malaysia, one of Asia’s leading academic institutions, has recorded in research, innovation, and leadership training, and affirmed that education, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation play a crucial role in national development.
He highlighted the strong and growing friendship between the two countries over the past five decades, particularly after both countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024. He noted that bilateral trade reached US$18.14 billion in 2024, representing a year-on-year rise of 4.4% from 2023.
The Prime Minister welcomed growing educational ties, including recent letters of intent signed between National University of Malaysia and top Vietnamese institutions. He called for stronger cooperation in training high-quality human resources, especially in key fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital transformation, along with academic exchange, research collaboration, and innovation.
Regarding cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, he proposed enhancing the exchange of information and experience in institutional development for new economic models, AI governance, and sandbox frameworks for testing new solutions. He also called for stronger connectivity between the two countries’ high-tech parks, innovation centres, and startup incubators, and urged support for tech enterprises from both sides in accessing each other’s markets.
The Prime Minister also shared Vietnam’s major educational goals of offering free tuition to all students from preschool to high school starting in the 2025 - 2026 school year; universalising English, digital skills, and AI literacy by 2035; and placing Vietnam among the world’s top 20 education systems by 2045.
He expressed his confidence that with creativity, bold thinking, and adaptability, young people will be at the forefront of building a prosperous and sustainable ASEAN.
Vietnam stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with Malaysia in education and training, as well as in the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation for the shared goal of sustainable, prosperous, and increasingly vibrant development of both countries and the ASEAN community, he said.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is making a working trip to Malaysia from May 24 - 28, where he also attended the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.
