Vietnamese community in Malaysia assured of Government’s strong support
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse met with Vietnamese Embassy staff and Vietnamese community representatives in Malaysia on May 25 in Kuala Lumpur, during his official visit to Malaysia and attendance at the 46th ASEAN Summit.

The Vietnamese Government leader reaffirmed the Party, State, and Government’s ongoing commitment to overseas Vietnamese, including those in Malaysia, highlighting their integral role in the nation. He hailed the strong development of Vietnam–Malaysia relations, especially following the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Briefing the community on Vietnam’s socio-economic progress and active diplomacy, PM Chinh emphasized support policies for overseas Vietnamese to secure legal status, build stable lives, and integrate into host societies. These efforts aim to strengthen national solidarity and encourage contributions to Vietnam’s development and defence.
He noted agencies are dealing concern concerns over immigration, land, housing, and citizenship, and expressed hope the community will continue integrating, respecting local laws, and strengthening ties between Vietnam and Malaysia.
Ahead of meetings with Malaysian leaders, he promised to seek continued support and favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, and work in Malaysia, thereby contributing to both countries’ development.
Representatives from the Malaysia–Vietnam Friendship Association and Vietnamese businesses expressed gratitude for government support and recent policy improvements. They expressed confidence in Vietnam’s future growth and urged cooperation to improve conditions for Vietnamese living and working in Malaysia, including rights comparable to locals. They also called for stronger business and student networks, cultural exchanges, and a Vietnamese language center in Malaysia.
Vietnamese Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh reported nearly 40,000 Vietnamese reside, study, and work in Malaysia. The community is united, law-abiding, and patriotic, with many entrepreneurs making positive contributions to Malaysia’s socio-economic development economy and boosting bilateral trade and investment.
