PM concludes working trip to South Africa for G20 Summit
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left South Africa at 7 p.m. on November 23 (local time), concluding their trip to attend the G20 Summit and conduct bilateral activities in the country.
During the three days in South Africa, PM Chinh, invited by the South African G20 Presidency as a guest participant, joined senior leaders of G20 member states, representatives from 20 guest countries, and heads of 21 international and regional organisations at the Summit.
He took part in two key discussion sessions on sustainable and inclusive economic development and contributions to a resilient world, where he put forward strategic measures to foster growth.
The Prime Minister called on the G20 to take the lead in building a cooperative international framework based on mutual respect, seeking solutions to conflicts and creating an enabling environment for development. He stressed the need to safeguard a rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at its core, alongside a balanced, transparent and open global financial system.
He also underscored the importance of flexible and effective global governance to support robust development in the era of digital and green transitions.
While staying Johannesburg, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held talks and formally announced the elevation of Vietnam–South Africa relations to a Strategic Partnership - a model form of South–South cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation, identifying these as the central pillars of bilateral ties. They agreed to promote market access for goods and aim to raise two-way trade to US$4–5 billion over the next two to three years.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister held numerous bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organisations to advance cooperation in areas of strategic importance to Vietnam, including green transition, digital transformation, innovation, strategic infrastructure development, and high-quality human resources. These engagements helped mobilise maximum external resources to support Vietnam’s development goals.
The G20 Summit and related bilateral activities in South Africa were also the final leg of PM Chinh’s eight-day trip to Kuwait, Algeria, and South Africa.
The outcomes of the visit serve as an important foundation, a driving force, and a source of inspiration for Vietnam as it continues to realise its national development aspirations and attract international resources for the country’s goals in the new era.
