Party General Secretary To Lam to pay state visit to Republic of Korea
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse will make a state visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from August 10 to 13, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

The invitation has been extended by RoK President Lee Jae-myung and the First Lady, the Ministry said in a press communique on August 7.
Vietnam and the RoK established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992, and elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022 to mark 30 years of their diplomatic ties.
Political trust has been increasingly strengthened through high-level visit exchanges by their top leaders. President Lee Jae-myung has affirmed that the RoK highly values the Vietnam – RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in its overall relationship with Asian countries.
The RoK is the largest investor in Vietnam, with US$94 billion in total registered capital across 10,203 projects, accounting for 23.5% of the total number of FDI projects and 18.1% of total registered FDI in Vietnam. It ranks second in development cooperation, with US$4 billion commitments in assistance by 2030.
Two-way trade between the two countries reached US$81.5 billion in 2024, a 7.3% increase compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, Vietnam has 112 investment projects in the RoK, with a total capital of US$37.4 million.
The RoK continues to be one of the largest sources of tourists to Vietnam. In 2024, 4.6 million Koreans visited Vietnam. In the first five months of 2025 alone, there were 1.9 million Korean visitors, making it the second-largest tourist market for Vietnam.
Between 2023 and 2024, the RoK provided approximately US$29.4 million in non-governmental aid to Vietnam, focusing on socio-economic development, education and training, and addressing social issues. Multicultural families, especially Vietnamese-Korean families, are playing an increasingly important role in deepening mutual understanding and acting as bridges between the two peoples.
During their phone conversation on August 6, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and RoK Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun pledged to enhance the Vietnam – RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
They also committed to deepening cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, and investment; encouraging Korean enterprises to invest in Vietnam; and facilitating mutual market access for businesses from both countries.
