President Luong Cuong receives Special Envoy of RoK President

VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong hosted a reception in Hanoi on July 30 for Park Chang Dal, Special Envoy of President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Lee Jae Myung, who was on a working visit to Vietnam from July 28 to 30.

During the meeting, President Luong Cuong praised President Lee Jae Myung for holding a phone call and sending a special envoy to Vietnam shortly after taking office, thereby demonstrating the RoK’s strong commitment to Vietnam and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Extending his warm congratulations to President Lee Jae Myung, the Vietnamese State leader expressed confidence that under his leadership, the RoK would continue to prosper and bring happiness to its people. He reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its ties with the RoK and supports the development policies of President Lee’s administration, thereby helping to enhance the RoK’s global role and position.

President Luong Cuong noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than 30 years ago, particularly following the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022, bilateral cooperation has grown robustly across almost every sector, with the two countries becoming each other’s leading partners.

Given the huge potential for future cooperation, the President proposed that both sides continue working hand in hand to facilitate high-level visits and exchanges; bolster cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and high-quality human resource development, especially as Vietnam accelerates digital transformation and pursues green and circular economy models.

He also urged further cooperation in fields where the RoK holds strengths and Vietnam has demand, based on mutual benefit. This would help advance the shared goal of raising bilateral trade to US$150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner, while also expanding cultural, sports, and people-to-people exchanges.

President Luong Cuong expressed hope that the RoK would continue supporting the nearly 350,000 Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working there, including around 100,000 multicultural Vietnamese-Korean families who serve as bridges of friendship and contribute to deepening bilateral ties.

In response, Special Envoy Park Chang Dal said President Lee Jae Myung places high priority on relations with Vietnam and views Vietnam as a key regional partner. He expressed the RoK’s desire to pursue effective and practical cooperation with Vietnam under the new administration’s development agenda, and asked Vietnam to continue assisting Korean enterprises and resolving obstacles they may face while investing in the country.

On regional and international matters, both sides agreed to maintain close coordination at forums of mutual interest.

President Luong Cuong laid stress on the importance of ensuring peace, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea; maintaining a peaceful, stable, and rules-based maritime order; and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Special Envoy Park reaffirmed the RoK’s commitment to working closely with Vietnam to ensure the success of the APEC Summits in 2025 in the RoK and APEC 2027 in Vietnam.
