Party chief To Lam meets CPP leader Hun Sen in Phnom Penh
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam met Cambodian Senate President and ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) leader Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on February 6, pledging to deepen political trust and expand comprehensive cooperation between the two neighbours.
Hun Sen welcomed the Vietnamese leader on a state visit to Cambodia and said the visit, coming shortly after the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, reflected Vietnam’s high regard for its traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership with Cambodia.
He congratulated his guest on being re-elected as party chief and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam would continue to achieve major socio-economic progress and contribute to regional and global development.
Hun Sen affirmed Cambodia attaches great importance to its relationship with Vietnam and seeks to further strengthen bilateral ties, including by expanding market access to better link the two economies.
Party leader To Lam, for his part, said he was pleased to return to Cambodia after the Party congress and thanked the Cambodian royal family and people for their warm and respectful reception, which he said demonstrated the long-standing solidarity and friendship between the two countries.
He praised Cambodia’s recent achievements and voiced confidence that, under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the country’s leadership, Cambodia would continue to develop strongly and improve living standards.
The Vietnamese leader noted that Vietnam’s achievements have been supported by its neighbours, including Cambodia, and expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by former King Norodom Sihanouk, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, King Norodom Sihamoni and generations of Cambodian leaders and people during Vietnam’s past struggle for independence and its current development.
The two sides exchanged views on their respective development goals and agreed to coordinate more closely, including within the Vietnam–Cambodia–Laos framework.
Earlier, the Vietnamese leader paid a courtesy call on Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk at the Royal Palace.
During the meeting, he thanked the Queen Mother for her longstanding support for Vietnam–Cambodia relations and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to fast and sustainable development, independence and self-reliance, alongside deep and effective international integration.
Both host and guest agreed to continue deepening the traditional friendship, good-neighbourliness and comprehensive, long-term cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples and for peace and stability in the region.
The Vietnamese leader also conveyed an invitation for King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.
