Party chief To Lam receives state welcome in Phnom Penh
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam received a state welcome in Phnom Penh on February 6, marking the start of his state visit to Cambodia aimed at deepening political trust and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The welcoming ceremony was held at the Royal Palace and presided over by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Senate, acting on behalf of the King.
Thousands of Cambodian youths, students and residents lined the route to the Royal Palace, waving national flags and flowers and holding portraits of King Norodom Sihamoni and Party General Secretary To Lam.
During the ceremony, Hun Sen warmly greeted the Vietnamese leader and invited him to step onto the honour podium, where military bands played the national anthems of the two countries. The two leaders then reviewed the guard of honour of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
The Vietnamese Party leader arrived in the Cambodian capital with a high-ranking delegation earlier in the day for a state visit at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.
The visit is expected to open a new phase in Vietnam–Cambodia relations, with stronger political trust and more comprehensive and substantive cooperation.
While staying in Phnom Penh, Party chief To Lam will co-chair a high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People’s Party. He will also join senior leaders of Cambodia and Laos in co-chairing a meeting among the heads of the three ruling parties of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Earlier on the same day, the Vietnamese leader laid wreaths at the Independence Monument, the statue of former King Norodom Sihanouk, and the Vietnam–Cambodia Friendship Monument in Phnom Penh.
