VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has urged the country’s foreign service to continue strong reforms and effectively implement the resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, to help mobilise external resources and enhance Vietnam’s international standing.
Speaking at a meeting in Hanoi on January 25 with ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad who returned home for the 14th National Party Congress, the top leader said the Congress has reaffirmed foreign affairs as one of the key pillars of Vietnam’s overall strategy.
He called on the diplomatic sector to further innovate its working methods and strengthen the implementation of the Congress’s resolution to meet the country’s development requirements in the new period.
Given rapid, complex and unpredictable global changes, the Party chief urged ambassadors and mission heads to remain proactive and agile, step up research and strategic forecasting, and provide timely advice to the Party and State in shaping and implementing foreign policy.
He stressed the need to safeguard independence, self-reliance and strategic autonomy, describing these as vital to Vietnam’s long-term development.
He said the foreign service must place the protection of the country’s core national interests as its top priority, while actively and responsibly contributing to the resolution of regional and global issues.
The Party chief also called on Vietnam’s diplomatic missions to strengthen support for overseas Vietnamese communities, enhance consular protection, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens and businesses, and better mobilise overseas Vietnamese resources, particularly intellectuals, experts and scientists, for national development.
Welcoming the diplomats, he commended the foreign service for its sense of responsibility and its contributions to the country’s overall achievements.
At the meeting, ambassadors and mission heads shared the positive and confident mood among overseas Vietnamese communities following the successful conclusion of the Congress, expressing belief in Vietnam’s renewed momentum and rising stature in a new era of national development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also said the Congress’s success reflected a clear long-term strategic vision and renewed thinking on institutions, implementation and action, aimed at achieving rapid and sustainable development while ensuring lasting stability.
