National Assembly Chairman meets Vietnamese community in Türkiye

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on April 17 met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and members of the Vietnamese community in Türkiye, as part of his working trip to Istanbul for the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-152).

Ambassador of Vietnam to Türkiye Dang Thi Thu Ha informed that the Vietnamese community in the host country currently numbers around 200 people. Although modest in size, the community remains closely connected and consistently looks toward the homeland.

Community members regularly follow developments in Vietnam and take pride in the country’s progress and deeper global integration, while also actively supporting one another in their daily lives and work abroad, she said.

According to the ambassador, the Embassy, together with the community, has established a liaison board for the Vietnamese community in Türkiye and is working toward the formal establishment of a Vietnamese association in Türkiye, aiming to create a unified platform to strengthen connectivity, mutual support, and community engagement.

Representing the community, Luu Thai Hung, member of the liaison board for the Vietnamese community, noted that Vietnamese people in Türkiye strictly comply with local laws and maintain a strong spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance, particularly in times of difficulty, including during natural disasters and rescue efforts.

He recalled the expatriates’ active support for Vietnamese rescue teams during the devastating earthquake in southeastern Türkiye in 2023. He also proposed continued facilitation of administrative procedures, including nationality-related matters, as well as stronger support for preserving the Vietnamese language and cultural identity among younger generations.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Man briefed participants on Vietnam’s socio-economic development, highlighting key milestones such as the 14th National Party Congress, the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and local People’s Councils, as well as ongoing reforms to streamline the political system and strengthen social welfare policies.

He reaffirmed that after 40 years of Đổi mới (Renewal), Vietnam is entering a new stage of development, with the goal of becoming a modern industrialized, upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income developed country by 2045.

Sharing with the community about the challenges faced by Vietnamese citizens and diplomatic missions abroad, the National Assembly Chairman informed that the National Assembly and Government have been continuously improving policies related to overseas representative missions, including amendments to the Law on Vietnamese Representative Missions, aimed at enhancing citizen protection and community support.

Regarding proposals from the community, he noted that several legal frameworks, including the Law on Identification, Law on Civil Status, Law on Housing, and Law on Real Estate Business, have been revised or are being refined to facilitate overseas Vietnamese in investment, business activities, and stronger ties with the homeland.

The National Assembly Chairman also affirmed that the preservation of cultural identity and the Vietnamese language is a long-term priority, supported through education programmes, teaching materials, and resources for Vietnamese language instruction abroad.

He expressed his hope that the Vietnamese community in Türkiye would continue to strengthen solidarity, integrate well into the host society, and uphold the image of Vietnamese people as responsible, law-abiding, and globally engaged. Wherever they are, Vietnamese people remain an integral part of the nation. The homeland always follows and takes pride in the contributions of its overseas community, he emphasised.

He also urged the Vietnamese Embassy in Türkiye to continue serving as a strong bridge between the community and the homeland, supporting stable livelihoods for overseas Vietnamese while promoting economic cooperation and business connectivity between the two countries, thereby contributing to the broader development of Vietnam–Türkiye relations.
