The consensus was reached during a meeting between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Sounthone Xayachack on April 17, on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-152) in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close, effective and substantive cooperation between the two legislative bodies, describing parliamentary engagement as a key channel in reinforcing the special Vietnam–Laos relationship.

Chairman Man noted that the Vietnamese National Assembly highly values its coordination with its Lao counterpart, particularly in supporting the broader political ties between the two countries. He also congratulated Laos on the successful organisation of its recent elections and leadership appointments for the new term.

Vice President Xayachack, for her part, congratulated Vietnam on the outcomes of its 14th National Party Congress and the election of the 16th National Assembly leadership. She reaffirmed Laos’ appreciation for Vietnam’s continued support, including timely assistance in ensuring energy supply amid global disruptions.

Both sides agreed to step up exchanges of high-level delegations and enhance the sharing of legislative experience, while placing greater emphasis on coordination in oversight activities.

This approach aims to ensure that bilateral cooperation and investment projects, particularly those undertaken by Vietnam in Laos, are implemented effectively and on schedule, in line with priorities set by the two Parties and States.
