Laos places top priority on relations with Vietnam, says ambassador
VOV.VN - The State visit to Vietnam by Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on January 26–27, 2026 is expected to inject new momentum into bilateral cooperation and further deepen the strategic relationship between the two countries, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Erthavanh.
The ambassador told Nhan Dan (People’s daily) in an interview that the visit comes shortly after the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), giving it special and profound significance.
According to the ambassador, the visit vividly reflects the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam - a relationship that is exemplary, faithful and rare in international relations.
The visit is not only intended to congratulate Vietnam on the success of the CPV’s 14th National Congress, but also demonstrates the high level of political trust and long-term strategic commitment between the two Parties, States and peoples.
The fact that General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith has chosen Vietnam as his first overseas destination following the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party shows that Laos consistently values and places top priority on its relations with Vietnam in its foreign policy.
Ambassador Erthavanh expressed confidence that the visit would help strengthen bilateral cooperation, further clarify the new substance of the “strategic relationship,” and create fresh impetus for both sides to closely coordinate in implementing high-level agreements and development goals in the new period.
On this occasion, the ambassador conveyed his congratulations to the CPV, the State and people of Vietnam on the successful organisation of the 14th National Congress.
She said the congress’s success demonstrates the correct leadership, political resolve and strategic vision of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as Vietnam’s strong determination and aspiration for robust development in the new era.
The ambassador voiced her belief that with the important decisions adopted at the congress, Vietnam would continue to achieve rapid and sustainable development while further enhancing its role and position in the region and the world.
The success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is not only a source of pride for the Vietnamese people, but also for the Party, State and people of Laos, she stressed.
On the foundation of great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, Laos–Vietnam relations will continue to be consolidated and developed in a deeper, more practical and more effective manner, said the diplomat.
