Top Cuban legislator Esteban Lazo Hernandez begins Vietnam visit today
VOV.VN - Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power, is scheduled to begin a six-day official visit to Vietnam on September 30 at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

During his stay, Hernandez, who is also President of the Council of State of Cuba, will co-chair the second session of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, alongside the top Vietnamese legislator.
The visit takes place at a time when Vietnam and Cuba are celebrating 65 years of their diplomatic relations (1960 – 2025), reaffirming the enduring and loyal friendship between the two peoples and countries.
This marks Hernandez’s third official visit to Vietnam as President of the Cuban National Assembly, following previous visits in 2017 and 2024. He also represented the Cuban Party, State, Government, and people at several significant events in Vietnam, including the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit to Quang Tri in 2023 and the state funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in 2024.
Notably, Hernandez is the first senior Cuban leader to officially visit Vietnam since the state visit of First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, which took place from August 31 to September 2, 2025.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long, this visit follows up on the outcomes of the recent high-level visit and aims to concretise agreements, promoting practical cooperation across various sectors.
The cooperation between the parliaments of Vietnam and Cuba is considered a highlight in bilateral relations and plays a complementary role in strengthening the ties between the two Parties and States.
The second session of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee will focus on reviewing achieved results, assessing the implementation of previously agreed recommendations, and discussing measures to overcome obstacles in order to deepen parliamentary collaboration.
