State President Luong Cuong meets top Cuban leader in Hanoi
VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong held a meeting with First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in Hanoi on September 1, as part of the later’s state visit to Vietnam and attendance at a grand ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Welcoming Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on his first visit as head of Cuba’s Party and State, President Luong Cuong hailed the high-level delegation’s presence at Vietnam’s national celebration as a reflection of the deep fraternal ties and valuable support of the Cuban Party, State, and people for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause.
The Vietnamese leader also conveyed his respectful greetings and warm regards to Cuban revolutionary leader General Raúl Castro Ruz and other senior leaders of the Cuban Party and State. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s enduring appreciation for Cuba’s support, both material and moral, during Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as its ongoing national construction and defence. President Luong Cuong highlighted that the Vietnamese people closely follow Cuba’s progress and welcome the significant achievements of the Cuban Party, State, and people since the 8th Party Congress, particularly in national unity and socio-economic development amid a complex international context.
He expressed confidence that heroic Cuba will overcome current challenges and continue to achieve greater success in building and defending the Socialist Republic of Cuba.
The Vietnamese State leader emphasised that the special traditional solidarity and friendship, along with comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, rooted in trust and fraternal ties, have been strengthened through high-level visits, theoretical exchanges, experience sharing, collaboration between ministries and localities, and effective cooperation in security, defence, foreign affairs, trade, agriculture, construction, and biopharmaceutical sectors.

For his part, the Cuban leader expressed his honour at attending Vietnam’s 80th National Day celebration on behalf of the Cuban Party and State. He noted that the event represents a major milestone for Vietnam and serves as an inspiration for struggles for independence, freedom, and social justice worldwide, including in Cuba. He expressed confidence that, building on nearly 40 years of “Doi Moi” (Renewal), Vietnam will continue achieving greater success in safeguarding, developing, and building the country.
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez also conveyed his deep appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Vietnamese people and sincerely thanked them for the meaningful gift presented through the national fundraising campaign “65 Years of Vietnam–Cuba Solidarity,” describing it as a vivid expression of the longstanding fraternal solidarity and cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
The Cuban leader affirmed that Cuba always values the solidarity, support, and assistance of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, particularly their practical contributions in strategic areas such as rice production, food security, and renewable energy development. He also applauded Vietnamese businesses for their contributions to key sectors in Cuba and confirmed that Cuba stands ready to provide favourable conditions and mechanisms for them to expand operations, ensuring that economic, trade, and investment ties reflect the strong political relationship between the two countries.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the exemplary Vietnam–Cuba relationship, founded by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro Ruz and nurtured by successive generations.
They agreed to increase meetings at all levels, effectively carry out existing agreements, enhance cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties and countries, and continue close consultation and mutual support in international organisations and multilateral forums.
They also consented to intensify exchanges and cooperation between political and social organisations, mass associations, businesses, and the people of both countries, while raising awareness among younger generations of the special Vietnam-Cuba friendship.
