Cuban President begins Vietnam visit, welcomed by Party chief To Lam
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam and his spouse, Ngo Phuong Ly, on September 1 hosted a red-carpet welcome ceremony for First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The top Cuban leader was accompanied by his spouse, Lis Cuesta Peraza, on a state visit to Vietnam for a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
Following the welcome ceremony, the top leaders of Vietnam and Cuba held talks.
Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic ties on December 2, 1960. During Vietnam’s resistance war against US imperialists, Cuba emerged as a symbol of international solidarity, taking the lead in the global movement supporting Vietnam’s struggle for independence and offering invaluable assistance.
Despite being separated by half the globe, the Vietnam–Cuba relationship has grown into a model of international relations. From the foundations laid by Cuban national hero José Martí, President Ho Chi Minh, and Cuban leader Fidel Castro, generations of leaders and citizens of both countries have nurtured a special bond forged through history’s many ups and downs.
Over the past 65 years, bilateral cooperation has expanded across all levels, channels, and sectors, centered on three key pillars: political-diplomatic ties as the foundation, economic–trade–investment cooperation as the driving force, and people-to-people exchanges as the binding element.
The Cuban leader’s state visit once again reaffirms that the solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba remains a guiding light for cooperation and development, serving the legitimate interests of both nations while contributing to joint efforts for peace, stability, cooperation, and development regionally and globally.
One day earlier, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his spouse Lis Cuesta Peraza paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi.
The top Cuban leader and his delegation visited the Vietnam Military History Museum, where they laid flowers at the monument commemorating Cuban military experts who supported Vietnam's struggle for independence. The delegation also offered flowers in tribute to Cuban national hero José Martí at his statue in Hanoi's Tao Dan Park and visited the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Groups.
