Vietnamese language tightens special Vietnam-Laos friendship

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang, in coordination with Pongkham Secondary School and High School and the Vietnamese community in Luang Prabang, recently held the final round of the “I Love Vietnamese” contest in Luang Prabang city, northern Laos.

The contest was part of activities marking the launch of the Day to Honour the Vietnamese Language in overseas Vietnamese communities and the 2026 Vietnamese Language Ambassador contest organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.

Those attending the event were Vietnamese Consul General in Luang Prabang Vu Ngoc Ly, Director of the Luang Prabang Department of Education and Sports Soulidet Keobualaphet, representatives of the Vietnamese community, teachers and students from Pongkham Secondary School and High School and Hung Vuong Primary School.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly said the contest would encourage students to further study and practise Vietnamese, becoming dedicated ambassadors of the language and helping promote the teaching, learning and use of Vietnamese among overseas Vietnamese communities and international friends. He added that learning Vietnamese would also help students better understand Vietnam’s culture, history and traditions, and create opportunities for future study and work in Vietnam.

Speaking on behalf of the provincial authorities, Soulidet Keobualaphet said it was the first time the contest had been held in Luang Prabang, noting that it provided Lao students with a useful platform to improve language skills and international integration, while strengthening their understanding of Vietnam and contributing to greater mutual understanding and closer ties between the two countries.

The contest, prepared since late December 2025, attracted four teams with 30 finalists selected from earlier rounds. The final featured sections including greetings, knowledge, presentations and talent performances related to the culture and people of Vietnam and Laos.

Cultural performances and interactive exchanges in Vietnamese between students and teachers also left a strong impression on participants.

At the closing ceremony, prizes were awarded to top-performing individuals and teams, along with learning materials to encourage continued study and help spread appreciation for the Vietnamese language, contributing to further strengthening the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
