Vietnamese lacquer painting exhibition opens in Russia

VOV.VN - An exhibition of Vietnamese lacquer paintings titled The Beauty Beyond the Spotlight: Vietnamese Lacquer Paintings was inaugurated at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, on July 30.

Running from July 30 to September 14, the exhibition showcases nearly the entire collection of Vietnamese lacquer paintings housed at the museum. It features works by renowned Vietnamese artists such as Le Quoc Loc, Pham Hau, Nguyen Tu Nghiem, Pham Van Don, Nguyen Trong Kiem, Tran Dinh Th, Linh Chi, Duong Bich Lirn, and Hoang Tich Tru.

In her opening remarks, Madame Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of Party General Secretary To Lam, emphasised the cultural significance of the event, describing it as a vivid symbol of the friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and the Russian Federation. She highlighted lacquer painting as a distinctive traditional art form of Vietnam, one that demands meticulous craftsmanship, patience, mastery, and deep artistic soul.

The exhibition is not only a cultural showcase, but also a meaningful bridge for artistic exchange between the Vietnamese and Russian peoples, said Madame Ly, who was on a working trip to Russia.

The Director of the State Museum of Oriental Art affirmed that this is the most extensive exhibition of Vietnamese lacquer paintings ever held at the museum. It reflects the richness and uniqueness of Vietnamese culture and offers visitors a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s artistic heritage.

He expressed hope that the exhibition would leave a lasting impression on audiences and strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries.

Madame Ly then presented the museum with a number of cultural items. Notably, she gifted the lacquer painting “Palm Hills” by Phan Ke An, one of Vietnam’s most celebrated 20th-century painters. She also presented the museum with a traditional Vietnamese Áo Dài (long dress), designed with a unique blend of imagery - the Vietnamese bamboo hedgerows and Russia’s birch forests.

Following the opening, delegates toured the full exhibition space, viewing all the lacquer artworks on display.

As part of her working visit to Russia, Madame Ngo Phuong Ly on July 30 met with Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, who reaffirmed that cultural cooperation plays an important role in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Vietnam.

Lyubimova praised the significance of the recent Vietnamese Cultural Festival at Red Square and expressed hope that similar events would be held in other regions of Russia at different times of the year.
