Vietnamese culture festival held in Russia’s Tomsk

VOV.VN - A Vietnam Culture Day under the theme “Vietnam: People and Homeland” was held in Tomsk, western Siberia, Russia on March 25, drawing nearly 600 attendees, including university lecturers, international students and local residents.

The event was organised by the Vietnamese Students’ Association and the Vietnamese student union in Tomsk to mark major national events, respond to Youth Month, and celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 – March 26, 2026).

Speaking at the event, Artyom Rykun, Vice Rector for International Relations at Tomsk State University (TSU), said Vietnamese students have over many years shown a strong sense of diligence in study, respect for teachers, and an active and enthusiastic spirit. He praised their efforts in both academic study and extracurricular activities, adding that the performances prepared for the event represent Vietnam’s culture in Tomsk.

Svetlana Kurilo, an officer at the International Student Affairs Office of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), said she is proud of Vietnamese students at the university, who have consistently demonstrated strong performance and good qualities. Through her regular contact with them, she said they show a high willingness to learn and make efforts to master the Russian language.

The festival created a Vietnamese cultural space at the cultural centre of Tomsk State University, where international visitors could experience Asian culture through three areas: a performance stage in the main hall, a food area, and a folk games space in a smaller hall.

The art programme presented Vietnamese culture from traditional to modern. International visitors were introduced to the history of Vietnamese costume through an Ao dai show across different periods, while martial arts performances showed the strength and resilience of Vietnamese people. A modern dance segment featured a youthful and energetic performance.

The food area evoked the warmth of a family meal through traditional dishes, while the folk games space drew the largest crowds, with visitors taking part in games from northern, central and southern Vietnam. The event provided a complete experience of Vietnamese culture, although there are only about 60 Vietnamese students in the city. Their love for their culture drove greater efforts to organise the festival in western Siberia.

The audience’s strong response and continuous applause after each performance showed the appeal of Vietnamese culture in Tomsk. As the programme concluded, the theme “People and Homeland” remained present in the food, performances and games, contributing to closer ties between the two peoples. The event gave Vietnamese students in Tomsk a chance to express their connection to their homeland while bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international friends.
