Vietnamese fashion takes first step into Russia’s fashion scene

VOV.VN - The “SOGNO NIGHT” show, featuring saxophonist Quyen Thien Dac, vocalist Pham Thu Ha and evening gowns by designer Nguyen Thuy Linh, was held at Petrovsky Palace in Moscow on the night of March 21, marking the first step of Vietnamese fashion into Russia’s fashion scene.

The idea of staging the show at Petrovsky Palace, an 18th-century architectural landmark and one of Russia’s heritage sites, came from a love for classical architecture. When contacting the palace about the venue, the designer was surprised that the management, showing goodwill toward Vietnam and its people, agreed to open the site.

A love for Russia met a love for Vietnam in a night of Vietnamese fashion presented to Russian audiences.

SOGNO NIGHT introduced around 40 evening gowns in a royal style, designed for a sense of splendour and lightness in keeping with the palace setting. Taffeta was the main material, combined with velvet, silk and high-end embellishments on sheer fabric. Through the presentation of Russian and Vietnamese models, the collection conveyed that sense of connection, like a new breeze carrying the scent of Hanoi’s milk flowers spreading in Moscow.

SOGNO reflects a commitment and an aspiration to bring Vietnamese fashion to Russia. Instead of presenting Ao dai (traditional long dress), which is more common among Vietnamese, the collection focused on European-style evening wear, as a gift from a Vietnamese designer to Russian audiences in Russia, introducing Vietnamese talent, aesthetics and sensibility.

In the other direction, designer Thuy Linh said Russians have a strong interest in fashion and high standards, dressing as well as in any fashion capital, and she hopes to share that perspective with audiences in Vietnam.

The audience at SOGNO NIGHT included fashion enthusiasts, critics, representatives of fashion magazines, fashion companies, event organisers, as well as figures from Russia’s tourism sector. In addition to a performance, the event aims to connect creative communities and promote cultural exchange between Vietnam, Russia and international partners.

Referring to the Vietnam Culture Festival in May 2025, which drew nearly one million visitors in central Moscow, Bulat Nurmukhanov, Vice Chairman of the Moscow Tourism Committee, said SOGNO NIGHT continues the cultural dialogue between the two countries.

He spoke positively about the quality of the show and expressed hope that Vietnamese designers will soon take part in Moscow Fashion Week, opening up new avenues of cooperation between the Russian capital and Vietnamese cities.

SOGNO NIGHT, along with warm applause from Russian audiences, marks a new milestone for Vietnamese fashion, adding another emotional bond between the peoples of the two countries. Fashion is taking on a greater role in enhancing value and affirming Vietnam’s cultural presence in Russia.
