Vietnam-France cultural, artistic links strengthened through exhibition in France

VOV.VN - The art exhibition “From the Seine to the Red River” and the launch of CCAVF, a newly established Vietnamese cultural and arts association in France, took place in Arcueil on May 31, gathering artists, local officials, members of the Vietnamese community and admirers of Vietnamese culture in France.

The exhibition featured more than 20 works by five Vietnamese artists: Trinh Minh Tien, Do Hiep, Tran Ngoc Anh, Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa, representing different generations and artistic styles. Created using a variety of media, including silk, dó paper (traditional Vietnamese handmade paper), monotype printmaking, acrylic painting and installation art, the works offered French audiences diverse perspectives on contemporary Vietnamese art.

In his address,  Dinh Ngoc Duc, Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France (CCV), described art as a universal language capable of connecting people across geographical, linguistic and cultural boundaries.

He said each artwork not only reflects the beauty of the homeland and the depth of Vietnam’s cultural heritage, but also conveys the aspirations, emotions and spirit of contemporary Vietnamese people. As international integration deepens, culture and the arts play an increasingly important role in preserving national identity while contributing to the country’s soft power, he added.

According to Duc, the participation of Vietnamese artists in exhibitions in France goes beyond artistic exchange, serving as a cultural bridge that helps strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Vietnam and France, as well as other European countries.

He also welcomed the establishment of CCAVF, highlighting it as a platform for artists to meet, exchange ideas and promote Vietnamese cultural values to the international community.

Among the exhibition’s visitors was French comic book illustrator Jean-Charles Sarrazin, who has maintained close ties with Vietnamese art since studying in Hanoi in the late 1980s. He said Vietnamese art is receiving growing international recognition, particularly through exhibitions and the auction market.

Sarrazin noted that contemporary Vietnamese art is becoming increasingly diverse and creative, and deserves greater attention from French audiences.

Representing the Vietnamese artists’ delegation, Trinh Tuan, a lecturer at the University of Industrial Fine Arts, said the exhibition in Arcueil marks the beginning of a series of international artistic exchange activities by Vietnamese artists in Europe. Following France, the group plans to present its works in Germany and Italy.

According to Tuan, the most important objective of these activities is to strengthen connections among artists, particularly by creating opportunities for younger generations to engage with international environments, learn from global peers and broaden their creative horizons.

He added that the exhibition forms part of activities organised by the Asia Art Link (AAL) international artists’ network, which aims to promote exchanges between Vietnamese artists and their counterparts around the world.

A highlight of the programme was the launch of CCAVF, an initiative founded by Tran Thu Dung. With the goal of using culture as a bridge to connect the Vietnamese community in France and introduce Vietnam’s people and culture to international friends, the association is expected to become a meeting place for artists, cultural researchers and members of the Vietnamese community.

Organisers hope the association will contribute to promoting Vietnamese cultural values within France’s diverse cultural landscape.

As part of the programme, participants joined a discussion entitled “The Global Reach of Vietnamese Culture and Arts,” which examined opportunities and challenges in promoting Vietnamese culture overseas.

Speakers laid stress on the importance of translation, bilingual cultural products and artistic exchanges in helping international friends gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese cultural values.
