Lyon-HCM City photo exhibition marks 53 years of Vietnam-France ties

VOV.VN - A photo exhibition highlighting everyday life in Lyon and Ho Chi Minh City will open on April 22, marking the 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France.

The event, to be organised by the Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City, will take place at the exterior wall of the French mansion at No. 6 Le Duan Street, offering an open-air cultural experience accessible to the public.

Featuring 14 large-scale photographs, the exhibition presents a visual dialogue between the two sister cities through scenes of daily life. From riverside strolls and outdoor sports to vibrant market moments, the collection illustrates striking similarities in urban lifestyles despite the geographical distance between the two cities.

By bringing art into a public space along a busy street, the exhibition aims to reach a broad audience, from passersby to photography enthusiasts, while fostering greater appreciation of shared cultural values.

The exhibition also underscores the long-standing partnership between Lyon and Ho Chi Minh City, which has been strengthened through various cultural and economic collaborations. These include cooperation between the Confluences Museum and museums in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as urban initiatives such as Lyon’s support for architectural lighting projects in the southern metropolis.

In addition, many Lyon-based businesses are now operating in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the local economic development. At the same time, both cities are working together to address common challenges, including climate change adaptation and sustainable urban development, while seeking innovative solutions to improve residents’ quality of life.

The works on display are created by two photographers offering complementary perspectives. French photographer Adrien Jean, who has lived in Vietnam since 2014, captures the rhythm and authentic beauty of Ho Chi Minh City through intimate, everyday scenes. Meanwhile, Tony Noël presents images of Lyon with a focus on urban life, reflecting his experience collaborating with the city on creative projects such as tramway decoration.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be attended by representatives of Vietnamese competent agencies, Lyon businesses operating in HCM City, and Vietnamese alumni in Lyon.
