Vietnam claims silver at Global Chefs Challenge 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s national culinary team won silver at the Global Chefs Challenge Finals 2026, marking a major milestone for the country’s professional culinary industry at one of the world’s most prestigious cooking competitions.
Held in Newport, Wales, by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (Worldchefs), the finals brought together 15 leading national and regional teams competing in the Global Chefs Challenge category, the highest-tier contest for professional chefs in the Worldchefs system.
In the first appearance at the world finals, the Vietnamese team scored 81.875 points to rank eighth globally and finish among the Silver Medal winners. The result underscores the growing international standing of Vietnam’s culinary industry, which has gained increasing recognition for both technical expertise and distinctive culinary identity.
Italy topped the rankings with 94.167 points, followed by Denmark and Singapore. The Vietnamese team’s performance, surpassing several countries with long-established culinary traditions and advanced chef training systems, highlighted the rapid progress of the country’s professional chef community.
Representing Vietnam were Chef Trinh Tuan Dung and commis chef Le Dac Minh Quan, under the coaching of Van Phu Phuong Dung. All are members of the Saigon Professional Chefs Guild (SPC), affiliated with the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association and the Vietnam Federation of Chefs Associations.
The team qualified through the 2025 Asian regional qualifiers. At the regional semifinals, Chef Trinh Tuan Dung won gold, becoming one of Asia’s two highest-scoring representatives, alongside Singapore, to advance to the world finals.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s most demanding culinary competitions, the Global Chefs Challenge tests contestants on creativity, ingredient handling, cooking techniques, time management and presentation skills under international competition standards.
Vietnam’s Top 10 finish is expected to create further opportunities for Vietnamese cuisine to expand its international presence through both distinctive flavours and globally recognised standards of creativity, technique and professionalism.
