Venezuela, Vietnam promote tourism cooperation and expand cultural links
VOV.VN - Venezuelan Minister of Tourism Daniella Cabello met with Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My on April 29, to discuss directions for strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation, to tap each country’s potential and enhance people-to-people exchanges.
At the meeting, Ambassador Vu Trung My presented Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements after nearly 40 years of pursuing Doi Moi (renewal) process, as well as tourism development orientations for 2026-2030, which aim to turn tourism into a key economic sector and attract 45-50 million international arrivals by 2030.
According to the ambassador, with its long coastline, diverse ecosystems, rich cultural heritage and distinctive cuisine, Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination on the global tourism map. Vietnam’s experience in community-based tourism, eco-tourism and digital transformation in the tourism sector could become practical areas for cooperation between the two countries.
Reaffirming the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam, which places importance on the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Partnership with Venezuela, Ambassador Vu Trung My said tourism cooperation is an effective channel to bring bilateral ties closer to people in both nations.
Despite geographical distance, both countries have distinctive tourism potential that can complement each other in developing inter-regional tourism products, promoting destinations and sharing experience in sustainable development. The ambassador said Vietnam’s representative office in Venezuela will continue to play a connecting role, promoting links among management agencies, travel businesses and investors of both sides.
Ambassador Vu Trung My also expressed hope that the two sides would increase exchanges of delegations, participate in international tourism fairs, strengthen cooperation in human resource training and gradually explore the possibility of opening air routes in the future. According to him, stepping up destination promotion and developing tour routes linking heritage, nature and cultural features of each country would provide new impetus for bilateral cooperation.
For her part, Minister Daniella Cabello congratulated Vietnam on the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-April 30, 2026), and expressed her impression of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and the strong growth of its tourism sector in recent years.
She said the Venezuelan Government has identified tourism as one of the strategic pillars for diversifying the economy. With increased investment in infrastructure, services and destination promotion, tourist arrivals to Venezuela have recorded positive growth, creating opportunities for cooperation with international partners, including Vietnam.
Praising Vietnam’s tourism development experience, from an emerging destination to becoming a “bright spot” on the global tourism map, Minister Daniella Cabello expressed the wish for both countries to step up exchanges of experience in eco-tourism development and national tourism branding.
The minister also welcomed the participation of many Vietnamese travel businesses in international tourism events in Venezuela, particularly the Venezuela International Tourism Fair (FITVEN) and the International Forum on Ecotourism. These activities, she said, not only help businesses from both countries explore cooperation opportunities but also help promote the image of each country and its people and bring them closer to international friends.
On this occasion, Minister Daniella Cabello affirmed she will attend the 20th Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC 2026), scheduled to take place from August 27 to 29, 2026, calling it an important opportunity for Venezuela to strengthen connections with partners in the Asia-Pacific region and promote its image as a country rich in natural and cultural potential.
Both sides agreed that the solid political foundation, traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Venezuela provide an important advantage for advancing tourism cooperation despite geographical distance. Making use of each country’s strengths, together with joint promotion activities and increased business exchanges, is expected to open new routes of connectivity and make tourism a dynamic and promising area of cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.
