Vietnam maintains good time-honoured relations with Venezuela
VOV.VN - Vietnam maintains good traditional relations with Venezuela and wishes to continue boosting cooperation in line with the comprehensive partnership framework between the two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang has said.
Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ regular press briefing on January 8, the spokesperson responded to a reporter’s question on whether recent developments in Venezuela could affect bilateral cooperation. She reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of maintaining and developing its traditional relationship with the Latin American country.
At the same briefing, responding to a question on US President Donald Trump’s January 7 statement that the US would withdraw from 66 international organizations and UN agencies, the spokesperson said Vietnam supports multilateralism and values the role of multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations, in contributing to global governance and tackling common challenges on the basis of the UN Charter and international law.
She added that Vietnam hopes countries will continue to uphold multilateralism and contribute to building and strengthening multilateral institutions and international law for peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development. On that basis, Vietnam is ready to take part and make contributions, within its capacity, to global and regional multilateral mechanisms.
Also responding to a question from a representative of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Vietnam regarding developments in the Middle East linked to the situation in Yemen, including measures taken by Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council related to the country’s security and sovereignty, Hang said Vietnam is closely following developments in Yemen.
She called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid actions that could complicate the situation, refrain from the use or threat of force, and promote dialogue to create favorable conditions for a comprehensive and inclusive political solution for Yemen, in line with international law and the UN Charter, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as a whole.
