Nguyen Hue Flower Street opens in HCM City ahead of Lunar New Year
VOV.VN - Nguyen Hue Flower Street, most anticipated event during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in Ho Chi Minh City, opened on February 15, drawing large crowds of residents and visitors as Tet celebrations approach.
This year’s event, themed “Spring Convergence – Steadfastly Moving Forward,” features expanded space, modern technology applications and a message of unity and development for the southern metropolis.
Prior to the opening ceremony, delegates laid flowers and observed a moment of silence in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Monument Park.
For the Year of the Horse 2026, Ho Chi Minh City’s annual flower street presents a refreshed format with an expanded organisational scale. For the first time in its 23-year history, the programme is being held simultaneously at three locations: Nguyen Hue Walking Street in central Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Dau Mot Ward in former Binh Duong province (now part of Ho Chi Minh City), and Vung Tau Ward in former Ba Ria–Vung Tau province (now part of Ho Chi Minh City). Each site offers distinctive features while reflecting the shared theme of unity, convergence and dynamic development.
Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said the 2026 flower street is not only a traditional cultural space for Tet but also a “spring symphony” affirming the nation’s aspirations. She noted the event conveys a message of solidarity, integration and determination as the city strives to become a dynamic international megacity in Southeast Asia.
For the first time, organisers are offering synchronised daytime and nighttime experiences within the same space on Nguyen Hue Walking Street. The programme blends traditional art with modern technologies such as projection mapping, augmented reality and interactive lighting, which Thuy described as an innovative step reflecting the city’s pioneering spirit.
Following the opening ceremony, visitors began touring the flower street in cool evening weather. Van Thuan, who attended with friends, said he visits the Nguyen Hue Flower Street every year and considers it an unmissable Tet destination.
He held this year’s display stands out for its horse mascots featured prominently in large and small installations. He highlighted the two main mascots at the central entrance gate and the gate near Bach Dang Wharf, noting that the central design conveys strength and ambition for the city’s continued development.
Thuan expressed hope that both local residents and international visitors would leave with lasting impressions of the event.
