Prime Minister pays Tet visit to Hanoi sanitation workers on duty
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on February 15 (the 28th day of the final lunar month) visited and extended greetings to sanitation workers of the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO) who are on duty throughout the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
At Le Truc Flower Garden in Hanoi, the Prime Minister directly met and encouraged sanitation workers, expressing appreciation for their dedication in maintaining the capital’s cleanliness during the peak holiday period. He wished them continued pride in their profession, describing them as “silent blue-shirted workers” who contribute quietly yet significantly to the city’s well-being.
According to URENCO, the volume of waste typically rises sharply in the days leading up to and during Tet. To meet the demand, the company has deployed an additional 69 modern vehicles meeting Euro 5 emission standards, including electric vehicles, and strengthened coordination with local authorities to conduct comprehensive clean-up campaigns across the city.
Nguyen Thanh Son, deputy general director of URENCO, said the company has mobilised personnel, vehicles and equipment to ensure that all waste is collected and transported within the day, helping keep the capital clean and orderly during the holiday.
Sanitation teams have intensified street sweeping, vacuuming and washing operations in central wards such as Ba Dinh and Hoan Kiem, particularly along major thoroughfares including Kim Ma, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets, as well as around Hoan Kiem Lake and Ba Dinh Square. Workers are also on standby at flower markets, residential markets and fireworks display locations to promptly restore cleanliness after large gatherings.
Nguyen Thi Hong, a sanitation worker at URENCO, shared that despite the increased workload during Tet, she and her colleagues are committed to ensuring a clean urban environment so that residents can fully enjoy the holiday.
“Although the work is demanding, seeing clean and beautiful streets makes us happy,” she said.
Commending the workers’ efforts, Prime Minister Chinh noted that rapid urbanisation and population growth have made waste management increasingly complex. He called for greater application of science and technology to reduce physical strain on workers while ensuring that Hanoi remains bright, green, clean and beautiful.
The Prime Minister also urged Hanoi authorities to further invest in the environmental sector to support green transition goals, replicate exemplary labour models, and provide timely recognition and encouragement for workers. He emphasised the importance of raising public awareness and calling on all citizens to participate in environmental protection efforts.
“Everyone benefits from the hard work of sanitation workers, and everyone must share responsibility in preserving a bright, green, clean and beautiful environment,” he stressed.
Also in the morning, the Prime Minister also inspected sanitation work at Yen The Alley on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi Railway Station and the Central Circus. He inquired about workers’ living conditions and expressed hope that their incomes would improve year by year.
