Nearly 450 Francophone mayors discuss heritage preservation in Hue
VOV.VN - Nearly 450 Francophone mayors and officials have gathered in Hue city of Vietnam from April 27 to 30 to seek solutions on heritage preservation, sustainable tourism, and climate change response amid mounting global challenges.

Delegates underscored the importance of decentralised cooperation and the essential role of local authorities in addressing global issues.
Meanwhile, representatives of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) expressed their great appreciation for the efforts of member cities in maintaining dialogue and promoting concrete initiatives for the wider benefit of the community.
One of the highlights of the 45th General Assembly of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) was the launch of the "Francophone Cities Alliance for Climate" initiative.
This marks a new step towards strengthening cooperation among cities in reducing emissions, responding to natural disasters, and promoting green transition. This initiative is expected to contribute to building a network of sustainable and climate-resilient cities.
In a series of thematic forums, delegates discussed issues such as balancing tourism with cultural preservation, effective heritage site management, and community engagement in conservation efforts. As the host of Vietnam’s 2025 National Tourism Year, Hue - a UNESCO-recognised World Cultural Heritage site - presented case studies of how it integrates preservation and development to protect cultural assets while attracting visitors.
Over the years, the city has implemented numerous sustainable development projects with the support of the AIMF, such as the renovation of the Hue Imperial Citadel area, the construction of a biological sludge treatment plant, and the establishment of a welcome hub for French-speaking students.
The 45th General Assembly of the AIMF in Hue has created opportunities to strengthen international cooperation and affirmed the role of member cities in acting for a green, sustainable, and culturally rich future.
