Investing in modern infrastructure key to boosting Vietnam’s cultural industries
VOV.VN - A seminar in northern Ninh Binh province on October 30 highlighted the need for strong investment in modern cultural infrastructure to bring the country’s cultural industries into a new era.
The event, titled “Cultural Industries and Sustainable Tourism Development in Vietnam in the Context of International Integration,” emphasized the role of cultural industries in promoting Vietnam’s image and people, while enhancing national competitiveness.
In the context of deep international integration, cultural industries have emerged as one of the fastest-growing creative economic sectors. Tourism, particularly cultural tourism, is increasingly recognized as a key economic sector, contributing to local economic development, job creation, and preservation of national identity.
Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association noted, “To strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between cultural industries and sustainable tourism, it is essential to focus on developing a cultural industry ecosystem linked to each locality’s tourism value chain, leveraging cultural identity, creativity, and digital technology. We should promote distinctive cultural tourism, effectively utilize tangible and intangible heritage, and integrate arts, cinema, cuisine, fashion, and music. At the same time, digital transformation in promotion should be encouraged to create interactive platforms for tourists, artists, and businesses.”
Cultural industries generate unique tourism products that reflect local and national identity, enhancing destination competitiveness. Tourism, in turn, serves as a channel to promote cultural industries, expand consumer markets, and increase revenues. Global demand increasingly favors original content rich in cultural identity, creating opportunities for Vietnam to leverage traditional cultural values.
Prof. Dr. Dao Manh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Education Association (VITEA) added, “Integrating tourism with cultural experiences such as festivals, handicrafts, or local cuisine can generate significant added value for both tourism and cultural industries. Sustainable development must be prioritized, with cultural activities aiming to protect the environment, use resources efficiently, and minimize negative impacts on ecosystems.”
Vietnam also needs multifunctional cultural centers, theaters, cinemas, and creative spaces meeting international standards in cities and localities. Digital infrastructure is crucial, with specialized online platforms serving as promotional tools and connecting producers and consumers effectively. These form the foundation for Vietnam’s cultural industries to enter a new era.
