Imperial Banquet revives royal cuisine of the Nguyen Dynasty in Hue
VOV.VN - the “Imperial Banquet” programme has been held at Duyet Thi Duong Theatre in the Hue Imperial City, attracting a large number of domestic and international visitors and contributing to the growing development of nighttime tourism in the former imperial capital.
The event, part of Vietnam’s April 30–May 1 holiday celebrations, took place on the evenings of April 29 and May 1, with a limited capacity of around 130 guests per night. The exclusive, ticketed format was designed to ensure a high-quality and immersive experience for each participant.
The “Imperial Banquet” recreates the atmosphere of royal feasts from the Nguyen Dynasty within the setting of traditional imperial architecture. Guests were treated to refined dishes inspired by royal Vietnamese cuisine, including delicately prepared shrimp dishes, lotus-based desserts, and longan-stuffed lotus seed sweet soup. These were foods that were historically reserved for the imperial family and nobility.
Each dish is meticulously prepared and served according to traditional court rituals, offering a personalized and authentic fine-dining experience.
Beyond cuisine, visitors were also immersed in classical Hue court performances, recreating the grandeur and elegance of royal banquets once held in the imperial palace.
According to Le Cong Son, deputy director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, the programme was part of a broader series of cultural and tourism activities during the April 30 – May 1 holiday period.
The centre has combined traditional royal cuisine, Hue local gastronomy, and cultural performances across multiple heritage spaces, from the Noi Vu area to Duyet Thi Duong Theatre, in an effort to both develop nighttime tourism and offer more engaging visitor experiences in Hue, he noted.
