Hue moves to restore damaged Nguyen Dynasty throne

VOV.VN - Nguyen Van Phuong, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue city, has decided to establish a council to assess the condition and propose preservation and restoration plans for the Nguyen Dynasty’s imperial throne, a recognised national treasure, that was recently damaged by a visitor.

Along with local cultural and museum officials, the Hue leadership also invited officials and experts from the Department of Cultural Heritage and the National Museum of History to join the council.

Under the decision signed on May 30 the council will be tasked with evaluating the extent of damage to the Nguyen Dynasty’s imperial throne and proposing appropriate preservation and restoration solutions to safeguard its cultural and historical value.

Previously, two video clips quickly went viral on social media showing a male visitor with abnormal behaviour sneaking into a restricted area of Thai Hoa Palace and climbing onto the Nguyen Dynasty throne. The man, displaying signs of erratic behaviour, proceeded to break off both armrests of the national treasure.

The incident was later confirmed by Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre. The director said the incident occurred unexpectedly around noon on May 24. The man, suspected of being under the influence of drugs, was quickly subdued by security personnel and handed over to the police for investigation.
