Ho Chi Minh City launches first Photography Street
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City on January 25 inaugurated the Photography Street, a new outdoor public art space along Dong Khoi Street and Chi Lang Park, marking the first project of its kind in Vietnam and a concrete step in promoting the city’s creative and cultural industries.
Developed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, the project is designed as an open space showcasing outstanding works of artistic, documentary and fine-art photography, while providing residents and visitors with free access to high-quality visual art in the city centre.
More than a venue for displaying works, the Photography Street tells the story of Ho Chi Minh City, from historical milestones and development achievements to contemporary life, culture and people, highlighting the dynamism and creativity of a modern metropolis.
“The Photography Street is not only a place for exhibitions, but also a creative cultural space that reflects Ho Chi Minh City’s identity, people and development achievements, and contributes to the implementation of the city’s strategy for developing cultural industries,” said Tran The Thuan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, at the opening ceremony.
According to the official, the space that took nearly two months to complete is envisioned as an open cultural area showcasing outstanding works of art, press and fine-art photography. The project both enhances the urban landscape and provides a vibrant cultural meeting point in the city centre.
Dong Khoi Street has long hosted art and current-affairs exhibitions and connects major landmarks such as the Central Post Office, Book Street, the Opera House and the city’s administrative headquarters. The Photography Street builds on and enhances the cultural value of this historic thoroughfare.
The same day, the Department of Culture and Sports also launched the Contemporary Art Exhibition House at 158 Dong Khoi Street, featuring the application of digital and artificial intelligence technologies to exhibitions and heritage preservation.
The venue offers recreated images and films of old Saigon, alongside interactive experiences such as virtual reality zones, photo areas and thematic discussions aimed at bringing art closer to the public, particularly young people.
