Hanoi hosts Thai Festival 2026 to mark 50 years of bilateral ties
VOV.VN - The Thai Festival in Hanoi 2026, held from March 27 to 29 at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand and features a range of cultural activities.
The year 2026 marks 50 years since Vietnam and Thailand established diplomatic relations (1976-2026). Over five decades, bilateral relations have developed from initial exchanges to an enhanced strategic partnership. The opening ceremony of the Thai Festival in Hanoi 2026 on the evening of March 27, attended by senior representatives of both countries, marks the 50-year milestone in bilateral relations.
Hanoi is one of six capitals selected by the Government of Thailand to host the event, highlighting the selection of the Vietnamese capital as a venue for this programme. The 2026 theme, “Creative Living”, follows earlier editions and reflects a focus on creativity and lifestyle.
A highlight of the festival is the exhibition “Traditional Thai Costumes: Heritage of Queen Sirikit”. The display presents traditional attire as part of Thailand’s cultural identity and craftsmanship preserved across generations, providing an introduction to Thailand’s cultural heritage.
Visitors can experience performances ranging from classical dance to Muay Thai. A joint presentation featuring traditional costumes from both countries highlights cultural exchange between Vietnam and Thailand.
The festival also features a culinary space introducing Thai cuisine, including dishes such as som tum, tom yum and mango sticky rice. A recreated Songkran festival space includes traditional games and interactive activities, introducing Thai customs and community values.
The event also features product showcases in lifestyle, health and beauty, showing economic and cultural connections between the two countries. The festival is expected to attract between 3,000 and 4,000 visitors per day.
The Thai Festival in Hanoi 2026 is taking place from March 27 to 29 at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi Hanoi, and is open to the public free of charge from 10:00 to 21:00.
